BUDGET Kitchen MAKEOVER
HOW TO: A QUICK KITCHEN MAKEOVER
This kitchen is a study in a cost-effective makeover. On buying the property, we knew we would eventually renovate the back of the home, including a new kitchen. But with that project at least 5 years away, we needed a quick solution that wouldn't break the bank, but would get us through the next few years. The secret? A simple, good quality paint job.
The solid pine cabinetry was repainted in Dulux Vivid White
New handles were added
The dated brown tiles (complete with a colourful fruit feature tile), was also painted white - creating a french-country vibe we weren't expecting
Old lino was pulled up and the floorboards refinished with a walnut stain and a satin water-based coat of clear lacquer
Two simple light fittings completed the very simple makeover
All work was completed for around $2500 from start to finish.
Nine years later, this kitchen is still going strong, and we'll be sad to see its last days as we embark on our long-awaited renovation.
