Selling Houses Australia: Art Deco inspired in Sunshine West

Sunshine West, Qld

Don’t you just love Art Deco styling? In Series 15, episode 4 of Selling Houses Australia, Dennis Scott, Andrew Winter and interiors expert Wendy Moore headed to Sunshine West, Queensland. The Art Deco brief meant bringing glamour, pattern and fun references to this home’s design, including period-inspired lighting, lots of glamorous feature walls and bolts of pattern and colour in soft furnishings throughout. The first problem to tackle? Actually finishing the house.

Kitchen: Like the rest of this home, the kitchen badly needed a refresh, and Wendy wanted to give it a touch of Art Deco beauty. The first step was building in some cabinetry to house the pantry and stacked ovens; the floorplan was not functional, and it desperately needed some new appliances (these ones are from Euromaid). The details matter in an update like this – Wendy chose Blanco sinks and taps for their beauty and practicality, and extended flooring to make it consistent throughout the home – Merseyside Vista Slaten Oak from Flooring Xtra. Then some finishing touches. like ‘Bauhaus’ ribbed handles from Mother of Pearl & Sons and some pretty benchtop styling,

Living room: A smart new palette of navy blue with gold accents neatly meets the Art Deco brief in the living room renovation. A new corner set window was essential to bring in some extra light, and so worth the expense. They shine thanks to Duette blinds from Luxaflex. The Paramount pendant from The Lighting Outlet sets the scene here, with fresh Wattyl paint in Surfmist highlighting the original features. and textured rugs from Flooring Extra bring comfort underfoot.

“I chose a fireplace from Jetmaster with a classic silhouette and mantle to utilise for display, painted in Wattyl Surfmist” ~ interiors expert Wendy Moore

Bedroom: Clutter be gone! Swipe to see one of Wendy’s favourite transformations. A bedroom with a fresh new suite of furniture from Snooze (Carerra bedsides and ‘Retro Horizon’ bed frame in Queen/Oatmeal), a Linen House ‘Acapulco’ quilt cover set and a fresh wash of Wattyl ‘Midnight Sea’ paint look dynamic but feel restful and soothing. Duette blinds from Luxaflex complete the scene.
