Wendy Moore explains how the budgets work on Selling Houses Australia.

Do the homeowners really pay on Selling Houses Australia?

You may be disappointed to discover that the budgets are real and each homeowner contributes the maximum that they are able to. However, what is achieved on the show within that budget is pushed to the limit, as the homeowner’s budget excludes labour (which as anyone who has ever had a job quoted knows, can be very expensive), and some materials which are supplied by sponsors of the show.

How do Wendy and Dennis decide what to do with the money?

Wendy and landscape designer Dennis Scott also negotiate between themselves to divide the budget in a way that will deliver the biggest potential impact to the sale price. If a home needs a new bathroom, for example, it might be a priority over installing a new deck. However, if a home’s biggest selling point is its exterior spaces, then perhaps a new outdoor kitchen is on the agenda – in which case, a larger share of budget will go to Dennis!
